Katana Saya: Inspired by tradition. Crafted for today.

We believe beautiful cooking deserves beautifully crafted kitchen tools. Our kitchen knives are inspired by timeless principles of Japanese craftsmanship and philosophy that have shaped some of the world’s most admired culinary tools.

Inspired By Tradition.

The Katana Saya Name

The Katana was the prized sword of the Samurai with its extra sharp blade fashioned from folded Damascus Steel. The blades of our knives are similarly crafted from VG-10 Damascus Steel for the durability, edge retention and beautiful patterns. The Katana was always protected inside a sheath, or Saya. We believe our knives are equally precious and deserve the same level of protection. Following this tradition, we have chosen to include a wooden or leather sheath with each of our individual knives.

The Katana Saya Design

Every Katana Saya knife is designed to bring together exceptional performance, enduring craftsmanship and timeless aesthetics. At its core is a precision-forged VG-10 Damascus steel blade, chosen for its outstanding sharpness, edge retention and distinctive layered finish.

Inspired by the legendary katana, the prized sword of the Samurai, renowned for its remarkable strength and razor-sharp blade fashioned from folded Damascus steel. Our blades pay homage to this ancient craftsmanship while embracing modern manufacturing techniques.

The Katana Saya Colour Palette

The Katana Saya brand colour palette is based in Japanese culture and philosophy:

Bright Snow - Inspired by the Philosophy of Ma

White symbolises purity, tranquillity and new beginnings. Japanese interior design often features a lot of white due to the philosophy of ‘ma’ (negative space) to create calm and tranquillity.

Alabaster Grey – Inspired by Natural Hairo Elements

Grey (Haiiro (灰⾊) in Japanese) is a traditional colour valued for centuries for its understated elegance and neutrality. It evokes natural elements such as stones and the winter sky.

Bone – Inspired by Japanese Washi Paper

Washi is traditional Japanese handmade paper with a history spanning over 1,300 years, celebrated for its strength, beauty, and cultural significance.

Chestnut – Inspired by Japanese Cedar Wood

Light reddish brown of Japanese cedar wood, Sugi, which connects the natural and spiritual worlds. It symbolises purity and sanctity and the natural fragrance has calming properties.

Charcoal Brown – Inspired by Samurai Sword Smithing

The katana is a testament to the skill and artistry of the swordsmiths and the traditional forging process. The charcoal brown represents this ancient Japanese forging process.

The Katana Saya Collections

A knife should feel as beautiful in the hand as it looks on the worktop.

Our collections, Olive Wood, Pakkawood, Elements, Flame, Smoke and Pearl, are inspired by the textures, colours and natural beauty of the world around us as well as ancient Japanese philosophy.

Crafted for Today.

We have reinterpreted these Japanese traditions through modern engineering and carefully selected materials to create Japanese-style kitchen knives that are elegant to own, exceptional to use and built to perform every day.
